Where to start? Let's see, I am a 24 year old from Wilmington, Delaware. I grew up going to a Quaker high school and then proceeded to study Community and International Development at the University of Vermont. I decided to go to Vermont because of the beautiful lake, mountains, snow boarding opportunities, and fun-loving people. The summer after my Sophomore year, partly spent in Belize, I traveled cross-country and was astounded by the diverse beauty offered throughout the states. I am ashamed to say that before that trip, I was inclined to leave the U.S. and live abroad as soon I could manage it; but living out of the back of my car, spooning with Bison, and munching on canned green beans changed all of the stereotypes and preconceived notions that I had about Americans and my homeland. It was one of the reasons why I wanted to embark on this crazy, overwhelming, and extremely exciting hike: to continue exploring the nature and wonders of the U.S.A.! I have never known exactly what I wanted out of life and where I wanted to end up, so when an Au Pair position in Italy fell into my lap, I jumped at the opportunity. This is where I met the infamous and lovely Patricia, and our plans for this insane trip took root. Although at times I am extremely nervous and overwhelmed, this life changing journey; filled with introspection, personal growth, tears, and laughter is going to kick-ass.

Hey everyone! I'm Pat and I am a 25 year old Austria/German. My love (and need) to travel is the reason why I decided upon this crazy journey. I have been traveling since I was 10 years old, when my parents took up and moved the whole family to England. Since then I have lived in Dubai, Bahrain, Qatar, Italy, Switzerland and England (again for University) and have visited so many amazing places including Australia, numerous places in Europe and I am currently living back in Germany. At university I studied music with my instrument, my voice, but I was always itching to get away and travel. So I took a job as an Au Pair in Italy and during my fun filled time here met some amazing people including Sara. She opened my eyes to these ideas that I had not even considered, and as I have always wanted to visit America, I though 'what better way to see it than to walk half the country?' So here we are now - planning, panicking (even though we have lots of time left), discussing and dreaming of this trip which will be life altering and most probably an indescribable experience. I can't wait :D
